At a house sale this past weekend we found an incredible Victorian crazy quilt c. 1881. Among the intricate embroidery and numerous embellishments was my favorite piece - this sweetly embroidered scene of a young girl and her dog. The quilt also has a gorgeous flag medallion, medallions of President Garfield and his vice-president, Chester Arthur and other photos that I am still trying to identify. Other embellishments abound, such as an intricate spider web embroidered, Japanese motifs - including fans on each of the four corners.I am still doing research, but was told that the quilt was made by the French wife of Capt. Calvin Blazier, of Baden, PA, famous for the supposedly haunted Calvin Blazier House! I purchased the quilt from a descendant of Capt. Blazier.
