Antique Photo of an Italian Greyhound

I found this haunting photo at an estate sale and was fascinated by it. I believe that it is from the late 1800s.

There is something I keep wondering about in this photo - does the woman have an incredibly long index finger, or ... what is that??? A stick? A dog treat of some type?

Marcia P. Brown Lithograph - Foxhounds

Beautiful lithograph of a pack of five hound dogs in a country field - some of the dogs are Foxhounds, but others are just plain old hound dogs.

The piece is signed and numbered 191/450 and is signed by Butler, Pennsylvania artist and illustrator, Marcia P. Brown. It is dated 1995.

Marine Corps League Devil Dog Beer Can

This beer can salutes the Devil Dogs, an honorary society of the Marine Corps League. The mascot is a bull dog wearing a Marine Corps helmet; in this case, the helmet reads: Devil Dog. This particular can is from Pennsylvania and is dated 1981.

Bull Dog Canning Jar Rubbers

We found this box of Bull Dog Jar Rubbers deep in the Museum archives!

This box of canning jar rings is from, I believe, the early 1930s. They were manufactured by the Boston Woven Hose & Rubber Company of Cambridge 39, Massachusetts.

They used several versions of their bull dog logo over the years, but I particularly like this version with the very stern appearing dog!

Rawcliffe Pewter Collie Miniature

This cute and tiny little Collie is a pewter miniature by Rawcliffe Pewter, of Providence, Rhode Island.

Rawcliffe was started in 1903 by Peter Rawcliffe. According to their website, their original business specialized in silver coffee and tea services, and bronze sculptures, and entering the pewter casting business in the 1970s.

Hubley Cast Iron Cocker Spaniel

My research shows that this beautiful black cast iron Cocker Spaniel is most likely a Hubley! I'll have to do more research to confirm, but either way, I am thrilled with this recent find.

This Cocker Spaniel (at first I thought he was a long haired Dachshund because of his short legs) is about 4-1/2" tall x about 6-3/4" long, and is very heavy. He is finely detailed, and the seams are all tight and well done; he also has his original finish.

Reverse Painted Glass Brown Dog Paperweight

Very cute paperweight! The paperweight is clear glass and about 6" tall. It has an impression of a dog on the back side of the glass block. It is painted on the reverse - a copper colored, long earred dog, with long eyelashes, a green bow, and a big smile!

I've tried to find out more information about this little guy, and haven't had much success. Although it appears to be handpainted, I'd have to say it's probably a mass produced item, and also probably done within the past ten years or so.
